Classic Choral Society has been unique among community choral organizations. While no auditions are required, this mixed-voice choir of men and women has developed a solid reputation for professional performances of great choral works. Whether a cappella or accompanied by a full orchestra, audiences are always treated to stirring performances free of charge.
Artistic director Janiece Kohler is an especially skilled conductor, with the knack for taking a piece of music demanding enough to challenge the many experienced singers in the Society -- and breaking it down into "learnable sections" for members who are limited in music-reading ability. The age of singers range from teenagers to octogenarians . . . and they come from all over Orange County (as well as from beyond the County's borders). In 2002, Classic Choral Society once again became a year-round resource for choral musicians and grateful audiences, as a third season of music rehearsal and performance was offered, during the summer months.
Some members sing every performance - while others sing for only a single season each year, depending upon their schedules. Despite this ebb and flow of the membership roster, the Classic Choral Society maintains a distinctive, sonorous quality of sound - attributed in no small part to Maestra Kohler's unfailing ear, and devotion to "getting it right."
Concerts are traditionally performed at different venues throughout Orange County, depending upon available dates and budgetary allowances. Afterwards, the audience is always invited to enjoy some lively conversation with the Choral Society members. It has always been a hallmark of the organization to make participation in the Society and/or enjoying its concerts as accessible to as many people as possible. Supporters and new members are always appreciated, and most welcome . . . come join the fun, and the wonderful music.
