Janiece Kohler, a native of Trenton, Michigan, is a musician with international
performance and training credits. She earned her degree in Vocal Performance at
the Western Michigan University School of Music in Kalamazoo, and continued her
studies at the Music Academy for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria. Miss
Kohler studied voice with Dr. Joyce Zastro and Helen Fairchild Larsson, vocal
pedagogy with Marcella Faustman, choral conducting with Thomas C. Hardie, organ
with the late Alexander Boggs Ryan, and piano with C. Curtis Smith.
Her performance credits include solo appearances with the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra, the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, the Dearborn Choral Arts Society
and the Western Michigan University Choir during its European tour. As music
director, Janiece has conducted numerous performances of Broadway shows for
the New Vic Theatre, and for the Grand Valley State College Drama Department.
Her credits also include service as accompanist-in-residence for the Creative
Arts Workshops held at Michigan’s Olivet College.
She is founder and conductor of the Halcyon Singers & Ensemble. In addition
to her responsibilities as Conductor and Music Director of the Orange County
Classic Choral Society, she is the Director of Music at the First Presbyterian
Church in Washingtonville, and Minister of Music at the Blooming Grove United
Church of Christ. Miss Kohler frequently appears as guest conductor for NYSSMA
Area All-State and All County festivals. She has been employed at the American
Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) since 1977, and is presently
the Unidentified Works Specialist in Repertory Research. Jan makes her home
in Monroe, New York.
